Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Seth David Maine, son of Austin and Grace Curry Main, was born on July 8, 1917 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. In his prime, Seth was a strikingly handsome man, a rich combination of patriotism, humor, and compassion for the underdog In 1930, Seth and his mother and sister moved to McMinnville, Oregon. Seth graduated from McMinnville High School in 1936 and went on to attend Linfield College for a year. Seth joined the Oregon National Guard as soon as he was eighteen and continued in the military for thirty-three years. Seth served in WWII during which time he was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He retired in 1970 from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant. No one ever doubted his bravery or his love for his country and if they did they haven't seen his home, here in town, with the biggest flagpole in the world, proudly planted in his front yard. One of his daughter's favorite memories is seeing him in uniform, marching by in one of many parades. The children also love to remember the times he taught by example, that all we have should be shared with those who are less fortunate. Seth served as the National Service Officer for the Amvets of California before becoming the Veteran's Service Officer of Yamhill County in 1974. He married his wife Betty on February 15th, 1975, in Vancouver, Washington. He remained the Veteran's Service Officer of Yamhill County until he retired in 1982. After retirement he was a tireless veteran's volunteer, taking many veterans to the VA Hospital in Portland and was also active in many other veterans' activities in McMinnville. Most notably, he planned, instigated, or spoke at several Veterans' Day celebrations and was instrumental in placing a plaque with all of the Yamhill County Veteran's names from WWII, the Korean War, and Viet Nam on the existing memorial, located behind the McMinnville courthouse. He was a member of American Legion Post #21 and VFW Post #1062 where he has served as Commander twice. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: William and Curtis Bowdish, Ronnie, Justin, and Courtney Maine, Sean, Ryan, Austin, and Destiny McKeehan, and Tiffany Washburn.
