6th Regiment of Albany County, New YorkDeath 12 Sep 1807 Argyle, Washington Co., New York, USA Notes - According to the Narragansett Historical Register, Nathan Tanner was among the patriots who signed the "Test" to support the colonies against Great Britain (Other signers were Abel Tanner, William Tanner, William Tanner, Jr. and Francis Tanner, all of Hopkinton, RI). Nathan was admitted freeman in Hopkinton in 1760.
He served in the Revolutionary War in the 6th Regiment of Albany County, New York (See "DAR Patriot Index - Centennial Edition, Part 3, P-Z"; also "New York in the Revolution as Colony and State" by J.A. Roberts, Comptroller, pp 226-227)
He became an Elder in the Church of Christ of Botten Kill (later known as Bottskill Baptist Church) in Greenwich, New York on June 16, 1782 and served as its pastor from 1782-1794. In 1793, charges were preferred against him alleging certain improprieties, which grew out of his searching for money reportedly buried by British soldiers during the Revolutionary War. He was therefore excluded from the church on December 19, 1793, and shortly afterward "left the region".
