On June 10, 1635 William embarked from Gravesend, in the county of
Kent, England, on the river Thames on the ship "Truelove de London".
He was 20 years old and by trade a weaver. He arrived at Cohannet,
went later to Taunton, then to Assonet Neck (now Berkley).
In 1655 he married Mary Richmond of Taunton, the daughter of John
Richmond of Taunton, who came from Ashton Keynes, a parish of
Wiltshire, England.
In 1672, William was one of the original proprieters of the "Taunton
South Purchase" lands that were bought from the Indian King Phillip.
These lands consisted of all of what is now Dighton, and a great part
of Berkley, including Assonet Neck.
