- John owned land in Southarpe in the South Petherton area of England,
which he sold to his brother before coming to New England. John came
to New England in August 1639 and settled in Salem,MA, there he was
granted 60 acres, in what is know Wenham,MA. After a few years
removed to Lancaster, where he was allotted 20 acres for a house lot
on the "Neck". In 1653 he signed a petition for the building of a
saw-mill in Lancaster. John and his wife Joane's cemetery maker is
still standing after more than three hundred years.
