Plot: BriggsNotes - In a newspaper article recognizing Ann Eliza's 87th birthday, the following is written; "In a century-old house overflowing with antique furniture brought from England in the Sloop Nancy, owned by a sea-going ancestor, Mrs. Ann Eliza Briggs of Honeoye yesterday observed her 87th birthday.....As one of the oldest living inhabitants of that region, this octogenarian can recall as a child the flurry of excitement in that locality during the abolition period. The line of underground stations for runaway slaves extended across that stretch(Honeoye) of the country(Honeoye) and cellars of neighbors became temporary hiding places for the fugitives. The village of Honeoye was a center of activity during the Civil War period and Mrs. Briggs remembers the large contingent of soldiers that marched away to war. Born in the vicinity of Canandaigua in 1851, she was educated at a select school conducted during that period in Honeoye."
Two years later her obituary read; "Ann Eliza Briggs, 89, died in the home of her son, Harry Briggs, in Honeoye, Wednesday, after a long illness, She was born in Canandaigua and spent most of her life in this vicinity. She was on of the oldest residents of this locality. She was active in te Honeoye Congregational Church, of which she was a member, and the Ladies Aid. She leaves two sons, Harry and Irving, the latter of Rush; a sister Althea Boylan of Seattle,Wash.; a brother John B. Sleight of the town of Richmond; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews, Funeral will be held in the home of Harry Briggs at 2pm Sunday, with burial in Lake View Cemetery, Honeoye."
