- DENNIS EDWARD HOLMES, a Houston Police Department Officer assigned to
the Auto Theft Division, passed away while on duty Wednesday, January
10, 2001 in Houston, Texas. Born May 1, 1955 to Edward and Alta Holmes
in Washington, D.C., he died at the age of 45. Dennis grew up in
Dansville, NY; graduated from Dansville High School; then he earned
his degree in Criminal Justice from Canandaigua of Finger Lakes
College. He began his career with the city of Dansville Police Dept.
and then with the Federal Government in Hot Springs, SD. Dennis joined
the Houston Police Department on November 2, 1981, entering Police
Academy Class No. 101. Following graduation, he served the department
for 19 years in various divisions, the last which was the Auto Theft
Division. During his tenure with the department, he also served as the
Security Director for the motion film industry in Houston. Officer
Holmes is survived by his wife, Kym Holmes of Kingwood; daughters,
Kristen Nicole Holmes and Ashley Ann Holmes; parents, Edward and Alta
Holmes; sisters, Elaine Frew and her husband, Kenneth of Dansville,
NY; brothers, Kenneth Holmes and his wife, Linda of Hawaii, and John
Holmes and his wife, Theresa of Dansville NY; and numerous nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
