- Kermit J. Straight, 67, of 8111 South Main St., died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 1992) at Rochester General Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Springwater, Aug. 7, 1924, he was a son of Dale and Esma Lawrence Straight. He was married in Springwater, Oct. 24, 1947 to the former Bessie Acker, who survives.
He resided all his life in the Springwater area. He retired in 1986 after being employed for 33 years with Wilmont-Castle Co. of Rochester.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a member of the Springwater United Methodist Church, the Springwater American Legion Post 905, the Springwater Rod and Gun Club and the Springwater Grange. He was a 47-year life member of the Springwater Fire Department, a chairman of Springwater Fire Commissioners and a member of the Fire Police. He was also an auxiliary deputy sheriff in Livingston County.
He was predeceased by a son, John, and a daughter Marcia.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother Esma Straight of Springwater; one daughter, Alicia Case of Springwater; one sister, Pauline Kelly of Brunswick, Ga.; three grandchildren; one niece.
Calling hours were Friday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland. The Springwater American Legion and the Springwater Fire Department also held memorial services on Friday. A service was held at the Springwater United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Porter officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Springwater.
