- SPARTA Bruce Irven Hartman, 58, of the Sparta Center Road in Sparta,
died Monday (Jan. 1, 2001) after a short illness.
He was born July 5, 1942 the son of the late Bruce W. and Eleanor
(Swarts) Hartman. He was married in East Aurora on June 1, 1963 to
Valerie Ruth Bennett Hartman. Bruce was a graduate of Dansville
Central School and Alfred Agricultural and Technical College where he
received an AAS degree in Rural Engineering. He was a self-employed
farmer owning and operating Bruce Hartman Farms and Val-Bru Holsteins
of which he operated from 1963 to 1999. In 1999 Bruce was honored for
having the oldest contract in existence with the Conesus Milk Co-op
having signed his father's charter contract of 1939 when he purchased
the farm in 1975. Bruce was a charter member of the Sparta Center
Volunteer Fire Department, a Councilman on the Sparta Town Board for
over 20 years, former Treasurer of the Kiehle Cemetery Association, a
member of the Dansville Presbyterian Church, The Livingston County
Farm Bureau, and Monday Night bowling league, a past member of the NYS
Holstein Assoc., the Livingston Co. Holstein Club, and the Holstein
Assoc. of America.
Besides his wife Valerie, Bruce is survived by three daughters, Sharon
Hartman (Rob Waltman) of Dansville, Annetta (Kevin) Herrington of
Sparta, Carol (Rick) Raeman of Canandaigua; one son, Bruce G. Hartman
of Sparta; three grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Herrington of Sparta
and Sarah Raeman of Canandaigua; an aunt, Elizabeth Swarts; several
cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chamberlin
Funeral Home Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville, where funeral services will
be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Hotchkiss and Rev. Jamie
Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Kiehle Cemetery in Sparta.
Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Sparta Center
Volunteer Fire Dept., Reeds Corners Rd. or the Sparta Center United
Methodist Church, 8455 Sparta Center Rd., both of Dansville, N.Y.
