- Harlan (a.k.a. Bink) is the youngest offspring of his mother's 2nd
marriage. He graduated from Dansville Central School in 1945. He lied
about his age and joined the US Army, at 17 yrs of age. He became a
Sergeant for the HQ Battery 31th Field Artillery 2nd Infantry
Division, 1946 - 1947. When he returned home, he went to work for the
Dansville Mt. Morris Railroad (1948 - 1949). From 1948 - 1950, he
played semi-pro basketball for the Genesee Valley League's team The
Dansville Firemen. They won the 1949 League title. From 1949 - 1950,
he played semi-pro football for the Western NY Football
League's team Martina's Wildcats. In 1950, he went to work for Foster
Wheeler Corp., while attending college. 1952, he was recognized for
outstanding achievement with a War Service Scholarship to continue his
education. In 1953, he went to work for the Stony Brook Park Police.
He graduated ftom S.U.N.Y. at Geneseo in 1954, with a B.S. degree in
education. He received his first teaching position at Naples Central
School, teaching Jr. High history and Jr. high math classes, as well
as coaching Jr. high basketball
and baseball. In 1955, he received a teaching position at Honeoye
Central School. He taught High school algebra and Jr. High math
classes. He was also the varsity basketball coach at HCS. He won the
Section 5 Class D basketball championship, 1951. In 1960, he moved his
family to Honeoye, NY. In 1962, he moved them back to Dansville, NY.
In 1963, he moved them to Bristol, NY. 1964, he received a teaching
position at Victor Central School District and moved his family to
Victor, NY. He taught 7th grade math until he
retired in 1985. He was also the varsity basketbal coach from 1964 -
1971 and the jr. high basketbalI team from 1972 - 1974. In 1970, he
won the Section 5 Class A basketbal championship, which was televised
live from The Rochester War Memorial. During his years at VCS, Harlan
also completed 57 hours of graduate classes from Syracuse University,
S.U.N. Y at Geneseo, Hobart College (Geneva, NY), St. John Fisher
College (Rochester, NY), S.U.N. Y at Brockport and University of
Maryland (College Park campus). 1986 - 1989, he deciided to come out
of retirement to substitute teach at VCS, as well as coaching Jr. High
basketball at Red Jacket Central until 1991. 1992 Harlan and Linda
sold their family home to move to Canandaigua, NY. They now live there
part of the year. During the Winter months they spend their time on
either Florida's east coast or Myrtle Beach, SC, enjoying retirement
and incessantly playing tennis.
