    Notes:

    Mrs. Julia Howell.
Residents of Ovid were again startled Tuesday morning by the announcement of the sudden death of Mrs. Julia Howell who was found dead in bed in her rooms in the Dr. Gordon residence. Mrs. Howell, who of late years has only had rooms about town, some time ago took up her abode with Mrs. Gordon, so that both might have company. Monday night several of the neighbors were in for an evening call, remaining until after 11, when Mrs. Howell retired. Mrs. Gordon, remaining up some time afterward writing, heard no unusual sounds from Mrs. Howell's rooms upstairs. In the morning she tried to call her but receiving no reply, went into her room and found her cold in death. Mrs. Gordon summoned Mrs. Flynn, her neighbor, and Doctor Barnes who stated that life had been extinct four or five hours. She lay in bed as though sleeping and apparently had died without a struggle. Mrs. Howell was 72 years old and has lived in Ovid the greater share of her life, where she had many friends who are deeply sorrowed at their loss. She had no near relatives* except a brother in Interlaken. She had made her will which was left with attorney Allen, who at once announced that she had named Mr. J D. Thomas as her executor. Mr. Thomas took charge of her effects and in the absence of no one to arrange for the funeral set the time for 2.30 Saturday afternoon at the Gordon home, service to be conducted by Rev. D. N. Lyon. Mrs. Howell's maiden name was Forester, and she spent her girlhood in North Hector and Lodi. She was twice married, her first husband being Charles Post of Ovid and to them was born a child which died in infancy. Mr. Post died some years later, and after a widowhood of a few years she married William C. Howell, also of Ovid. She performed the part of mother to two nieces, one of whom is Mrs. Jennings, now of Mexico, who visited here some three years ago; and the late Mrs. Waldo, first wife of Dr. Waldo of Willard. These were the most of life to her. They were both married from the Franklin House of this village, which Mr. and Mrs. Howell conducted for some years. A message has been sent Mrs. Jennings announcing her aunt's death, but of course it will be impossible for her to reach here in time for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Howell also conducted the Carlton Hotel in Geneva for a while, and have owned and occupied the Sanford residence and the "Allen residence on Main Street, and the Michael Roan residence on South Main.
