- Isabel Z. Crane died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, in Amherst following a brief illness. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
The former Isabel Zornow was raised in Pittsford, New York and graduated from William Smith College in 1933 where she earned a bachelor of arts degree.
In 1937, Isabel married Scott W. Crane Jr., a former Livingston County district attorney, moving to Dansville, where she raised her two children, Scott and Carol.
After raising her family, Mrs. Crane returned to teaching high school in the Dansville and Canaseraga school districts, devoting her skills in subjects ranging from English, as chair of the department, to French, physical education and art.
Mrs. Crane was an accomplished golfer who won numerous championships and tournaments, playing until the age of 95. She was also an advanced bridge player.
For the past several years, Mrs. Crane had resided in Sun City Center, Fla.
Mrs. Crane is survived by her son, Scott W. Crane III; daughter, Carol Gibson; grandsons, Scott W. Crane IV and Andrew Scott Gibson; and great-grandaughter, Rachel Crane. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband; brothers Theodore, Cy and Gerald Zornow; twin sister, Kathryn Adams; and son-in-law, George M. Gibson.
Relatives and friends may call 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at St. Mary's Church, 43 Elizabeth St., Dansville. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
