- Florence J. Carney, 93, of the Groveland Road in Sparta died Wednesday (Oct. 16, 1991) in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.
Born in Watkins Glen on May 7, 1898, she was a daughter of Daniel and Ida Kennedy Banker. She was the widow of Charles G. Acomb and William G. Carney. She was active in farming most of her life. She and Mr. Carney were nationally recognized Ayrshire cattle breeders in the 1940's and 1950's. A graduate of Dansville High School, she attended the Geneseo Normal School and taught school for several years in the former Everman and Groveland Hill districts.
Mrs. Carney was a member of the Sparta First Presbyterian Church of Groveland Station and of the Sunshine Circle of the King's Daughters for which she served many years as treasurer. She also was a member of Cpl. Josiah Griswold Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was predeceased hy a daughter, Janice Hon; three brothers, Daniel, Earl and Kenneth Banker, and a sister, Beatrice Pfuntner.
Surviving are a son, Bruce Acomb of Dansville; a daughter, Judith Clancy of Loon Lake; a brother, Glenn Banker of Charleston, W. Va.; a sister, Jeraldine Penn of Denton, Tex.
A service was conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Sparta First Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville, with arrangements by the Hindle Funeral Home of Dansville.
