- James E. Balcom, 62, of Scottsville passed away Saturday afternoon, Aug. 16, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester following a long illness. Jim was born in Dansville on July 3, 1941, a son of the late Thomas Balcom and Mabel Hartman. On Sept. 26, 1959, he was married to Lois George Balcom who survives. He was also predeceased by a son, William George Balcom. Jim was the vice president of engineering at Applied Energy Solutions in Caledonia. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1959 to 1962. Jim was a member of the I Triple E Society and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, nature, auctions and helping anybody that needed a hand. His true love in life was spending time with his wife Lois and his children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his dear wife Lois are two daughters, Debora (Ralph) Polzella of Chelsea, Maine and Jacinda (Gary) Baker of Friendship; a son, Marvin K. (Christine Bloye) James of Friendship; and three grandchildren, James R. (Elizabeth Grimes) Balcom and William and Rebecca Polzella. Friends called Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville. Services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Scottsburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship.
