Mr. Stewart had seemed in his usual health and had gone to his field to dig potatoes about two o'clock. His daughter, Miss Alice Stewart returned from Bath later in the afternoon and, not finding her father at the barn, went to the field and found him unconscious. She summoned a neighbor who with others brought Mr. Stewart to the house. An examination disclosed the fact that Mr. Stewart had died about four o'clock from a heart attack. Mr. Stewart was fifty-nine years of age. He was born in the town of Howard, the son of Samuel Edgar and Mary Jane Watts Stewart. In early life he married Miss Margaret Dobbin whom he survived. Later he married Miss Vera Evans. Left to mourn his loss beside his wife are three children, Luther and Mervin Stewart of Bath and Miss Alice Stewart at home; two brothers Jackson Stewart of Howard and Bennet Stewart of Hornell; three sisters, Mrs. Eugene Stewart of Howard. Mrs. John Ross of Canisteo and Mrs. Charles Patterson of Wallace, two aunts, Mrs. Grant Jeliff and Mrs. Thomas Gulliver, of Canisteo, also one Uncle Ray Watts of Arkport. Mr. Stewart had resided on his farm for more than thirty years and was a member of the North Cameron Grange. He was a devoted husband and father and had hosts of friends who gathered at his home Sunday afternoon to pay final tribute to his memory. The services were in charge of the Rev. E. D. Chapman of North Cohocton. Burial was in Nondaga Cemetery at Bath.
