The funeral of the late Mrs. Susan Jane Burns, wife of the late James Burns, which was held on Friday at 2 p. m., from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merlin Nicholson on Campbell creek, was one of the largest ever held in Howard. Between 150 and 200 were present and there were many cars in line. Mrs. Burns was one of the oldest and most loved women that ever lived in Howard. The funeral was a general outpouring of the people who came to pay their last respects to a wonderful woman and neighbor and a loved and respected family. No couple ever lived in Howard who were more kind and' thoughtful of others and who assisted more in time of trouble, helped more persons when they were ill, or who lived more devoted, Christian lives than Mr. and Mrs. James Burns. It was the universal testimony of all that "their Works do Follow Them." The mass of floral offerings at the funeral Friday testified to the affection and esteem in which "Aunt Susan" was held by all. The services were conducted by Rev. J. B. McClintock, pastor of the Wesleyan church at Buena Vista of which she was a member for more than 60 years. He was assisted by Rev. Dr. W. C. Glasier, pastor of the Methodist church of Canisteo. The bearers were: Fred R. Hall of Rochester, Dr. O. K. Stewart of Hornell, Albert Burns of Howard, Dr. G. L. Preston, David H. Travis and Joseph C. Latham sr., of Canisteo.
