Notes - ANGELICA — Luther C. Farnum,73, of 229 W. Main St. died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at Buffalo Veterans Administration Hospital after a brief illness. Born June 15, 1926, in Angelica, he was a son of Gordon W. and Grace Allen Farnum. On March 29, 1945, in Angelica, he married the former Hazel I. Wickwire, who died Aug. 15, 1992. Mr. Farnum had lived most of his life in Angelica and attended the Willsonian School in Angelica. He served with the United States Army in Germany during World War II. For many years he was a quality control inspector at Acme Electric Corp. in Cuba. He also served as chief steward of the AFL-CIO Union Local 340. He retired in 1987. Mr. Farnum was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Angelica, a life member of the Angelica Fire Department, a member and past commander of the Hillwarner American Legion Post 414 of Angelica. He enjoyed gardening and gave of himself to his friends and community. Mr. Farnum was a sports booster in the area and was involved with the ARC. He served on the CSE Board in Angelica Central School. For many years, he and his wife served as foster care providers for Allegany County, providing a home for 32 children. Surviving are four sons, Duane L. (Joyce) Farnum of Andover, Donald L. (Cynthia) Farnum of Cuba, David L. (Kathy) Farnum of Friendship, and Gary M. Farnum of Angelica, a daughter, Denise L. (Ronald) McKnight of Cleveland, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Lionel (Joyce) Farnum of Dansville and Bernard (Janet) Farnum of Fairport; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Mr.Farnum was predeceased by three brothers, Allen Farnum, Merrick Farnum and Malcolm Farnum; and a sister, Jane Allen. Friends called at the Treusdell Funeral Home in Friendship on Friday (Jan. 28, 2000) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral and committal services were held Saturday (Jan. 29, 2000) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Rick Kiddy, pastor of the United Church of Friendship, officiated. Burial was in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica. Memorials may be made to the Angelica Ambulance Squad, the Hillwamer American Legion of Angelica Post 414 or to the Angelica Fire Department.

- At an early spring wedding, Thursday evening, March 29, Hazel Irene Wickwire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wickwire of Belmont, became the bride of Pvt. Luther C. Farnum, son of Mrs. Grace Farnum and the late Gordon Farnum of Angelica. The wedding was solemnized in St. Paul's Episcopal Church by Rev. Roy L. Webber. Easter Lilies and pink and white snapdragons formed the setting. Mrs. Ray Lyon of Belvidere played the wedding music. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a street length gown of beige with brown accessories. Her corsage was of Easter lilies and white snapdragons. The maid of honor was the bride's sister, Miss Edna Wickwire. She wore a gold colored gown with brown accessories. Her corsage was of pink carnations and pink snapdragons. Harland Palmer of Angelica attended the groom. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of Mrs. Grace Farnum. Pvt. Farnum left Monday, for Camp Meade, Maryland.
