Allen of Kenton, Ohio, occurred at her home in that city on October 25th after a critical illness of several weeks. Mrs. Allen was born in Groveland and was the daughter of Richard and Mary Gray. With her parents she moved to Geneseo in 1876 and graduated from the local Normal School In 1880, after which for several years she was a successful teacher. On June 15th. 1887, she was united is marriage to Mr. Allen, of this village, who the year before had gone to Kenton to assist in organizing the Kenton National Bank, of which he is present the cashier. They moved there immediately after their marriage. To them were born two sons, James Hezekiah Allen and Howard Gray Allen, now deceased. Mrs. Allen is also survived by two brothers, Dr. A. B. Gray of Lima. O.; and Fred Gray of Rushville; and by three sisters. Mrs. Mary A. Gray of East Orange, N. J.; and Miss Alice Gray and Mrs. Clara Pierpont of this village. Mrs. Allen was brought to Geneseo and short funeral services were held at the Gray home on Saturday. Rev. T. M. Carlisle officiating. Burial was made in Temple Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was prominent in club work in Ohio and devoted many years to civic, religious and social work. At the time of her death, she was state vice-regent of the Ohio Daughters of the American Revolution and served as regent of Fort McArthur Chapter, D. A. R.. at Kenton for a number of years. At the funeral in Kenton, the family was presented with the D. A. R. emblem of red rose tied with blue and white ribbon. This combination is presented to each incoming state regent and Mrs. Allen would have assumed that office next March had she lived. She was also president of the Kenton Public Welfare Association und gained statewide recognition for her handling of relief work during the war.
