- Evelyn E. Learn, age 81, formerly of Red School House Rd. in West
Sparta, passed away Monday morning, March 16, 1998 at Ira Davenport
Hospital in Bath after a long illness.
She was born in Sparta, on September 17, 1916, a daughter of Charles
A. and Flora Wagner Hamsher. On August 29, 1936 she was married to
William Lowell Learn Sr., who died on May 22, 1994. She was also
predeceased by a brother Charles W. Hamsher, Sr.
Evelyn worked for the Blum Shoe Factory, in Dansville as a seamstress
for many years, she had also worked as a welder at Foster Wheeler
Energy Corp. of Dansville during WWII.
She was a member of the West Sparta United Methodist Church and had
been active in the Ladies Aide at the Church.
She is survived by a son William L. (Susan) Learn Jr., of Ossian;
three daughters, Barbara (Gerald M.) Cooper of Dansville, Betty (Hugh,
Jr.) Jones of Avoca, and Bonnie (Warren) Powell of Rochester; a sister
Lydia Weiler of Dansville; sixteen grand-children; nineteen
great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends called Wednesday at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St.,
Dansville, where services were held Thursday, at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
Peter Del Rio officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, West
Sparta.
