- KINSTON, N.C. -- M. Irene (Besse) Normandin, 82, of Kinston, formerly
of New Bedford, Mass., died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at
Lenoir Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife and best friend of
Bernard E. Normandin, and daughter of the late Benjamin H. Besse and
Mary Eva (McCormick) Besse Sullivan.
Mrs. Normandin was born in New Bedford, and had lived in New Bedford
for most of her life before moving to Kinston in 1952. She was a
graduate of Campbell College.
She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Kinston.
Mrs. Normandin was formerly employed as an executive secretary at
Revere Copper & Brass in New Bedford.
She was a founding member of the Kinston Library and was active in
the local Art Council for many years. She was also a member of the
local Beta Phi Sorority.
Mrs. Normandin's many friends will remember her as a lovely and
loving person. Her husband misses her beyond words.
Survivors include her widower; a niece, Dorothy M. Baptista of
Westport, Mass.; three nephews, Mitchell J. Kuliga of Assonet, Mass.,
Robert H. Kuliga of New Bedford, and Paul F. Kuliga of Gorham N.H.;
and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ann Louise (Besse) Southerland Dupuis
and Dorothy E. (Besse) Kuliga Zawalski, and aunt of the late Joseph C.
Southerland.
Her memorial Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Name of the
Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, New Bedford. Burial will follow in
Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.
Local arrangements are by Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park
St., New Bedford.
