- Helen M. Allis, 92, of 23 E. Washington St., passed away Friday (March 26, 2010) at the Hornell Gardens.
Born in Hornell, May 13, 1917, the daughter of Ezra and Erna Miller Green, she was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Hornell High School. In her early life, she had worked for the Pentagon during World War II. She married Raymond C. Allis on June 23, 1943, who predeceased her on March 12, 1999. Helen was a member of the former St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she was very involved, and enjoyed crafts, playing piano and cats. Helen was a gracious person and will be most remembered for the love and compassion for her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; her son, James F. Allis in 1973; and her sister, Ruth Christian.
She is survived by four daughters, Beverly Burdett of Waterloo, Barbara (David) Irion of Holidaysburg, Pa., Christine Drum of Hornell, Suzanne (David) Miller of Horseheads; a son, Raymond (Brenda) Allis Jr. of Tucson, Ariz; sister, Lucille McEvoy of Florida; grandchildren, Gary Bailey Jr., Nicky Drum, David Irion, James Irion, Ryan Miller, Gregory Miller; great-grandchildren, Zachery, Jacob, Courtney, Gabrielle Bailey and Noah Jenkins; longtime friend of the family, William Drum; several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Robertson Funeral Home (at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home), 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services will take place at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.
