Collister of 19 Franklin St. died unexpectedly in his home Friday (Oct. 6, 1967). He was 76. A funeral service was conducted in the Chamberlin Funeral Home yesterday. The Rev. Robert McKee officiated. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Loon Lake. Mr. Collister in 1932 went to the Village Board with his idea for a children’s Halloween parade to serve as a diversion from the vandalism which accompanied the usual trick or treat procedures. His proposal was approved and he was made chairman of the event, a post in which he served for 33 years. He gave up the job last year, turning it over to Carl Leven Sr., who had served as his assistant for several years. He was born in Byron but had lived in Dansville most of his life. He was a barber in Dansville for many years before going to work at the Foster Wheeler Corp. plant here. Following his retirement from Foster Wheeler, Mr. Collister operated a barber shop in his home. Mr. Collister was a member of Dansville Presbyterian Church, Phoenix Lodge 115 F.&A.M. of which he was a past master and Dansville Chapter Royal Arch Masons. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past patron of the organization. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Dye Collister, a son, Ronald now serving with the U.S. Navy; a daughter, Mrs. James McCall of Rochester; a sister, Mrs. George Youch of Buffalo; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
