- Chester graduated Arkport Central School and learned the meat cutting trade. He later opened a restaurant in Wayland,NY, The Wayside Inn.
- Avon/South Dansville - Chester G. "Chet" Burger, age 86, passed away peacefully early Wednesday afternoon at his home in Avon.
He was born in the Town of Dansville on January 8, 1935, a son of the late Dana and Ruth (Kiefer) Burger. He was predeceased by his siblings June (Ernie) Neu, Duane, Larry, and Dwight Burger.
Chet was formerly employed at the Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville as a foreman, and as butcher at multiple IGAs. He had also owned and operated the Wayside Inn Restaurant on the Wayland hill for fourteen years, retiring in 1996. He was a former member of the South Dansville Fire Department, and the Perry and Leicester fire Departments, respectively. He was a former member of the Dansville Moose Club, and the American Legion, and was honorably discharged from the National Guard. He had also served as the Secretary of the Town of Dansville planning board.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana Cottom and Michelle Burger, both of Phoenix, AZ, and a son Christian (Cheri Parkhouse) Burger; grandchildren, Alysia Cottom of Columbia, SC, Philomena Burger, Russel Parkhouse, and Aerielle Parkhouse; a sister Carolyn (Dean) McCarthy, sisters-in-law Carrie Burger, and Sara Burger of Monroe, UT; former wife and long-time friend Barbara Burger; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Thursday July 1 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville, where services will be held at the completion of calling hours. Interment will be in Rogersville Forest Lawn Cemetery in South Dansville. Online memorials may be submitted at HindleFuneralHome.com.
