- SPARTA - George C. Kreiley, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2002 at the home he was born and resided in all of his life on Ross Rd. in the Town of Sparta. He was born in Sparta on Nov. 24, 1914, a son of the late Charles Harry and Katie Kidd Kreiley. On July 14, 1951, he was married to the former Bernice Ames, who survives. He was also predeceased by his son Charles Kreiley; his grandsons Matt and Don Kreiley; his siblings Howard Kreiley, Louise Osborn, Alice Thompson, Ruth Hamsher and Catharine Barnes; and his step-mother Mae Traxler. George and his brother Howard had operated the family farm in Sparta for many years. He was also a former judge for the township. He was a life member of the Sparta Center United Methodist Church, the Scottsburg Grange, and the Livingston County Farm Bureau. Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years Bernice are two sons, Richard (Gloria) Kreiley of Dansville and James (Marlene) Kreiley of West Henrietta and his daughter Linda (Sheldon Gleason) Burr of Sparta; three step-daughters: Lois (James) Mark of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Winifred (Richard) Feathers of Lakeville and Joan (William) French of Geneseo; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Everett) Kreiley Lead of Canaseraga; sister-in-law Ruth Kreiley of Sparta; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends called Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Sparta Center United Methodist Church, 8455 Sparta Center Rd. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
