"Regiment Again in Action - Two Men of 307th reported as Being seriously injured - Hornell, Oct 9. - That the 307th Infantry, which is made up largely of men from this section of the country, has been in action again is evident from the fact that J. Milton Allen and Anthony J. Fink, both of this city have been seriously wounded. Private Allen was a member of the Machine Gun Company. He was a linotype operator, 23 years old and was drafted from Buffalo on February 27, 1918, and dhortly after being moblized at Camp Upton was sent across. He was born in Almond and learned his trade in Canisteo and fro a time worked in this city. He was working in Canisteo at the time he was drafted, although he registered wheil he was in Buffalo. Private Fink was a boilermaker in the local Ere shops at the tie of drafted, on February 27, 1918. He was also sent to Camp Upton and from there to France. The war department has also just notified the family of the wounding of Private Joseph Norton, of Canisteo, although it happended more than a month ago."

- Long Illness Fatal to Friendship Man, James Allen, 67
Friendship - James M. Allen, 67, of Sunnyside, died yesterday morning at the Buffalo Veterans Hospital after a long illness. Born at West Almond on May 14, 1894, he was the son of Leonard K. and Viola Ferrin Allen. He was a married to the former Mildred Miller of Canisteo, who survives. A printer by trade, Mr. Allen served in that capacity with the former Friendship Register for 25 years. He was a member of the typography union of Olean, a veteran of World War I, past commander of the Friendship American Legion, Post 1108, past commander of the Olean VFW, and had served for many years as the manager of the Friendship town baseball club. In addition to his wife, other survivors are: three sons, James H. of Friendship, Richard K. Allen of Hamilton Air Base, Cal. and Robert L. of Lomita, Cal.; three daughters, Mrs. Jay Schwab of Friendship, Mrs. Harold Weinhauer of Wellsville, and Mrs. Paul J. Kruger of Friendship; one sister, Mrs. Joel Burdette of Hornell; and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Davis Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Albert Schott of the Friendship Methodist and the Friendship American Legion Post. Burial will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery.
