Name Wayne Melvin Allen Title Professor Birth 16 May 1890 Centerville, Turner Co., South Dakota, USA Gender Male Death 29 Aug 1917 Clay Co., South Dakota, USA Burial Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion, Clay Co., South Dakota, USA Notes - At the time of his registration for World War I draft, Wayne was living with his mother in Garrison, North Dakota and working as Superintendent of Schools for the Garrison School District in North Dakota. The draft card also noted that he was physically disabled, this was dated Jun 5, 1917 and he died less than 3 months later back in his hometown of Centerville, SD.
Newspaper article from the Fargo Forum, dated Sep 4, 1917, states that Garrison school will open Sept 24 and M.A. Tollefson "has been engaged as principle to succeed Prof. W. M. Allen, who resigned because of ill health" - apparently, they were not aware that he died a few days prior. Per his draft card info of being physically disabled, we can assume then at young age study a lot and became a teacher and up to Superintendent versus following his father's lumber business. Not able to learn what his disability was.
