- Gertrude 'Helen' White, loving wife and mother, 78, of Harpers Ferry Road, passed away early Thursday evening (Feb. 26, 2009)at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Helen was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Whitesboro, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Lander)Hayes. She resided in Whitesboro for the first few years of her life, prior to moving to the Dansville area at the age of five. Helen and her family lived on Sandy Hill for a number of years and in the village for a few years. She was a graduate of Dansville Central School in 1948. On Nov. 21, 1959, Helen and Dick White entered into a loving marriage at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Together, they celebrated over 49 years of marriage and resided their entire time together on Harpers Ferry Road in Springwater.
Helen's employment career spanned a couple of different areas. As a young adult, she was employed at F.A. Owens Publishing, Security Trust and Foster Wheeler prior to becoming a loving wife to Dick and mother of four children, Tim, Mike, Jon and Cara. Helen had several hobbies that included traveling to and camping in many different areas. One of her favorites, though, was baking. She would bake cinnamon rolls, cookies and bread like no other. Helen would bake items for the local bake sales and her goods rarely would make it to the table to be sold as they were swept up early. Helen loved spending time with her family, both immediate and extended, and she especially liked having a good time. She was a communicant of Holy Family Catholic Community and a past member of the Springwater Fire Department Auxiliary. Helen will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, William and Gertrude Hayes; her granddaughter, Elizabeth White; and two brothers, William and Theodore Hayes. She is survived by her loving husband, Dick White of Springwater; her children, Tim (Shelle)White of Rochester, Mike (Kathy)White of Hamburg, Jon (Heather)White of PawPaw, Mich. and Cara White of Rochester; her son-in-law, Elliot Siegel of Rochester; her grandchildren, Phillip White, Ryan and Austin White, and Brendon, Alexa and Bailey White; her sister, Peg (Fred)Lemen of Dansville; her brother, Bob (Rose)Hayes of Dansville; her sisters-in-law, Ruth and Pat Hayes, both of Dansville; along with several nieces and nephews.
