- Alderman Arwine Dies Result of Losing Leg Under Erie Car
Louie L. Arwine. 37 years old, of no.47 Catherine Street, an Erie brakeman, died in the hospital at Susquahanna, Pa., late yesterday afternoon as the result of injuries sustained shortly after 11 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Susquahanna yards. Only the night before he sustained slight injuries when his caboose was destroyed in a collision. The body was brought home this morning and was taken to the family home. Mr Arwine was a native of Hornell, having lived here all his life. He had been an employee of the Erie only about six months, previous to that time having worked in the Sherwood grocery store.
The accident is said to have due to the bursting of an air hose. Mr. Arwine was on top of a string of of cars when the air hose burst and the sudden stopping caused him to fall down between and his leg was crushed. He was taken to the hospital but the loss of blood was so great that he did not survive. He had represented the sixth ward on the board of Aldermen for two years and his term of office would not expire until January 1st. He was always a staunch Republican and worked hard in the interest of his party. He was also a member of Hornellsville Lodge, No. 331 F & A.M. Orient Tent, No. 21 K.O.T.M. and was widely known throughout the city. Especially in the sixth ward. Besides his widow he is survived by two children, Hazel and Alva and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Arwine of this city and one brother, Bert of Wayland. The body was brought home on train No. 5 and the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the house, No. 47 Catherine street and burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
