- Caroline is in the 1860 and 1870 census in Lockport,NY as a Teacher in the Common Schools. It appears she married John Beek after the death of her sister, Clara in 1872 (I assume she died during child birth, as son Clarence died in Dec 1872 - his death record names mother, Clara MacMichael).
Published in the Lockport Journal - Saturday January 24, 1903 (Page 5, Column 2):
The Lakota (N. D.) Herald of Jan. 16, 1903, says: Mrs. J. W. Beek, nee Carrie MacMichael, died Jan. 13, 1903. Mrs. Beek died at the residence of her son, Dr. Beek of this city. Her death was unexpected, she having been an invalid for the last six or seven years. She was born March 15, 1831 in Niagara county, N. Y. She was at the time of her death 71 years, nine months and 28 days of age. Her life was passed at Lockport, N. Y. until nearly 50 years of age when she came to North Dakota to live. Age and failing health compelled her to return to her former home in New York and after spending two years there she returned to North Dakota in 1901, living here until the death.
Although her last years were burdened by pain, her fate was borne uncomplainingly and through it all she manifested an heroic disposition born oniy of a reliance on one whom she realized was stronger than her self, and when the summons came it found her willing and ready to exchange the mortal for the immortal and to enter upon a new life where suffering would be unknown. Short funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon. The remains were taken to Lockport, N. Y., and will be interred in Cold Springs cemetary. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband J. W. Beek, J. J. Beek, and Mrs. Chas. W. Emert of Lockport, N. Y. Dr. R. H. Beek of this city and Clarence, now in Minneapolis, Minn.
