    Notes
    • Henry ("Hank") was born April 6, 1926 to Walter and Mary Mudge Dizney in Tacoma WA. The family moved to Kirkwood Missouri, where Hank attended Kirkwood High School and played on the football and wrestling teams.

Hank enlisted in the Army in 1944, where he was part of Company G, 386th Infantry, 97th Division, aka the Trident Division. He served in the European Theater during WWII, and earned a Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. Additionally, he served in the occupying forces in Japan.

After his military service, Hank earned his B.S. degree in education at Southeast Missouri State University, where he met and married Nancy Tellis, his partner for 66 years. Following a Master's degree at Wayne State University, Hank achieved his PhD at Iowa State University. In 1967 he joined the U of Oregon faculty, where he enjoyed teaching and cheering on the Duck track, wrestling, football and basketball teams. Upon retirement in 1992, Hank volunteered for numerous environmental, foreign relief and community organizations. He served as Project Director for UNESCO in Singapore, and worked professionally in Italy, Germany, China and Guam. As a family, Henry and Nancy enjoyed and shared many of these foreign assignments with their four children; Daniel, Carroll, Laurie and Patrick. As a special gift, 7 grandchildren have enriched his life: Derek, Danielle and Timothy, Nickolaus and Maris, Marley and Payton, and one great-grandchild, Wyatt. Hank was also blessed with 2 wonderful sons-in-law; Charles Schwarz and Tom Swanson, and 2 special daughters-in-law; Pamela Miller Dizney and Karen Marie Price (deceased).

Hank had many, many beloved friends from all walks of life. Great appreciation to his health providers; Duffy Hughes (deceased), Peter Ganter, Glen Buchanan, Roger McKinney, Sudeshna Banerjee, Shugi Zheng and their professional staffs, and Cascade Hospice. Special thanks to Pastors Greg Flynn, Janet Scott, Melanie Oommen, Jon Morgan, and countless Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational and Mennonite friends. Hank was thankful for the friendships formed through service with fellow volunteers and organizers in the Sierra Club, Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Disaster Service, Veterans for Peace, American Hiking Society, National Park Service, Egan Warming Center, Meals on Wheels, Food for Lane County, Habitat for Humanity and many others. To all the participants, supporters, runners and trainers through his dozens of marathons and distance runs- thank you for your part in his amazing race.

A service will be held at First Congregational Church in Eugene on March 2nd at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any of the above-mentioned charities.
