Ruth Thompson, 77, of Mark's Trailer Court, Dansville, passed away Tuesday evening, March 12, 1996, in the College Park Health Care Center in Houghton following a long illness. Born in the town of Richmond, NY, on Oct. 30, 1918, she was a daughter of Lee and Nettie Mae Cary Mallaber. She was the widow of Darrell F. Spencer, who died in 1964, and Stuart L. Thompson, who died in 1988. Ruth was also predeceased by sisters Isabelle Rauscher, Georgianna Peabody and Mary Briggs; and brothers Kenneth and Leon Mallaber, and Eugene and Walter Greenmen. She was a 49-year member of the Dansville Presbyterian Church, the Opportunity Circle of the Kings Daughters Home and the Kate J. Jackson Court of Amaranth, all of Dansville. She was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, Senior Nutrition Center and Noyes Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a son, James (Tammy) Spencer of Canaseraga; two daughters, Darlene (Gerald) Sullivan and Mary Anne (Joel) Kemp, both of Dansville; two stepsons, Lloyd (Anne) Thompson of Georgia and Morris (Pat) Thompson of Dansville; a stepdaughter, Phyllis (Bob) Glover of Dansville; two sisters, Betty Applin of Dansville and Genevieve Boyer of Clifton Springs; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Friends called Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held Sunday at 2p.m. with the Rev. Dr. M. Dayle Dickey officiating. Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. An Amaranth Memorial Service was also held Saturday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
