Notes - Fred Makeley Almond senior citizen, dies at 97. One of the oldest, if not the oldest, resident of Almond, Fred Makeley, died at the age of 97, Friday, Jan. 10, 1969 at the Wellsville Nursing Home of which he had been a resident for the past six months. A lifelong resident of Almond, he was proprietor of the former Makeley and Witter Flour and Feed Co. of Almond. Noted in this area for his gardening prowess, Mr. Makeley grew and sold vegetables from his garden until about three years ago when failing eyesight forced him to give up his favorite hobby. He was an elder of the Almond Union of Churches. Survivors include two daughter, Mrs. E. Allen Witter and Mrs Howard Fritz, both of Almond; four grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Robertson Funeral Home in Hornell at 2 pm Monday, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.
