- John G. Stickle, 90, passed peacefully on May 10, 2013 with his wife, Mary Jane Michaels-Stickle by his side in his home in Good Samaritan Village, Kissimmee, FL.
John was born on November 10, 1922 in Genoa, NY, to the late Gordon M. and Gladys S. Stickle.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude (Peggy) P. Stickle in 2007; and by his son Roy A. Stickle, in 1971. He was also predeceased by a sister, September Pfeifer, of West Palm Beach, FL in 2005.
John was a decorated WW II veteran who served in Europe and was at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he worked for Seven Hour Dry Cleaners in Syracuse, NY. In 1952 he opened Century Cleaners in Candor, NY. He served as a town justice in Candor for 28 years. He was a founding member of the Candor Coin Club. He was a member of the Allen Memorial Baptist Church. Aviation was his passion, and he was a flight instructor for 40 years. He led the operation of the East Hill Flying Club in Ithaca, NY for several decades and served as Chief Pilot.
Survivors include his daughter Cathy (Blair) Hoover of Trumansburg, NY; grandchildren Douglas Hoover of Hector, NY, and Heidi (Brian) Jones of Millport, NY; a sister, Midge Rondina of West Palm Beach, FL; and nieces and nephews. Those who wish to remember John in the form of a contribution may give to the organization of their choice.
A burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
