  Notes	Confirmed Zion Lehigh Evangelical Lutheran Church April 16, 1797 - aged 15. John came to Dansville with his father family and ably assisted in developing the agricultural resources of this section of Livingston County, and here he spent the remainder of his life. Both John and his wife, Mary, died the same day, of contagious disease known as malignant erysipelas that carried off many citizens of North Dansville during its prevalence at this time, including John's brother's wife Elizabeth and her mother Hannah Zerfass, who died two weeks prior. John lived in his father's house and which he operated for many years as a tavern. The Hartman's Tavern is considered the oldest house in Dansville, built in 1807. It was later occupied by his grandson, Orville T. Hartman. According to Doty's, History of the Genesee Country, John was a large landowner. His estate, when divided in 1848, contained five hundred and seventy-nine acres
