Plot: HartmanNotes - Hiram J. Hartman died Tuesday evening, Aug 8 1922 at nine o'clock, at his home on Fulton Street, after a long illness from consumption. He was born in Sparta, Dec. 22, 1838 n the farm of his father, Henry Hartman now owned by Fred Culbertson, and he was married Oct. 4, 1865 to Miss Edith Richardson. In October 1861, Mr. Hartman enlisted from West Sparta in Co.G, 13th N.Y. Vol., and severed two years. He joined Seth N. Hedges Post, GAR in 1892 and continued a member until he died. His funeral will be held at the house this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, Rev.S.F. Gutelius will officiate. Interment in Greenmount. Surviving Mr. Hartman are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. May Snyder, Mrs.Elizabheth O'Hern, Mrs.Ida Elliott of Pavilion and Mrs. Wm Graham of Stillwater,NY, two sons Noyes Hartman who went west and Edward Hartman in town, besides ten grandchildren and on great-grandchild.(Dansville Newspaper 1922)
In 1860 Hiram was living with William and Sarah Faulkner in South Dansville. Hiram served in the Civil War in Company G, 13th NY Vols. from 02Oct1861 to 11Jan1863. In 1870(census)he was working at the nursery. In 1885 he was living in West Sparta, according to his father's obituary.
