After his fathers death he moved to Michigan with his mother where she remarried and had two more children. He returned to Tomkins, N.Y. to live with relatives after his mothers death. In 1861 he married Elizabeth McMillen.
George V. Curry enlisted in the 109th Inf, Co.J 32nd Reg NY Vol for two years in 1861 as a Blacksmith. His discharge papers described him as five feet eleven inches tall, light complexion, blue eyes, and red hair. Upon his discharge in June 1863 he re-enlisted for three years in the Co. E, 21st Reg., New York Calvary on 26th August. He took part in twenty one engagements in Maryland and Virginia in 1864 and was wounded in the neck.
At the practical close of the war his regiment was not mustered out, but instead was sent to what is now Denver, Colorado to "look out for disturbances" among the Indians of the western territories. He was discharged from service 30th June, 1866 at Denver City, Colorado.
He and his wife, Eliza, owned and operated a hotel in Reynoldsville, N.Y. Son Van Kirk was born in Reynoldsville in 1868. They moved to Froggy Point on Cayuga Lake where they had two daughters, Etta Mae in 1869 and Dessie D. in 1871 before moving to Trumansburg. They had two more children, Ida Sophia 1875 and Charles B. 1879. George bought the D. W Himrod place on Hector Avenue where he resided until his death.
At one time a part owner of the Red Furnace on East Main Street, He was also for a time engaged in boat building at Frontenac and was employed in the building of the new Owen Warehouse.
He was a thorough patriot and a G.A.R. man, a member of the Treman Post from its organization. He served his county as Sherriff and his town as constable several times.
