- Charles graduated Dansville High School; Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY. He worked for the US Goverment in defense in Rochester,NY. He had many jobs in their local Methodist Church and in the Confernce. He was on the Board of the Rochester Methodist Home until his retirement in 1971. He and Gertrude retired to Florida
winters where they lived near DeLand in a mobile home. in the sumers - until 1985. In 1973 they traveled nine months through the United States with their travel trailer. In 1969 they took a 3 week trip to Wozi, Liberia at Christmas time. Their son was in the Peace Corps in Wozi at the time. In 1975 they visited a former exchange student in Norway. Charles hobbies are golf, reading, gardening and travel.
DELAND, Fla./DANSVILLE - Charles E. Kiehle, 94, a resident of the Florida Lutheran Retirement Center, died in his sleep Friday (June 17, 2005) at the Health Center at Florida Lutheran.
Mr. Kiehle was born in Dansville Jan. 29, 1911, the son of the late William and Anna (Galbraith) Kiehle. He graduated from Dansville High School, then entered Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1932 with a degree in electrical engineering.
On June 22, 1935, he was married to Gertrude Griffing Kiehle and they made their first home in Dansville. They later moved to Rochester, where Mr. Kiehle was employed as a civilian employee of the Navy Department as a quality control engineer. Upon retirement, they moved to Deland, while still spending summers in the Dansville area. Mr. Kiehle enjoyed gardening and golf, playing regularly until he was almost 90. Their marriage covered over 58 years and four children, until Mrs. Kiehle's death in 1993.
On May 6, 1995, Mr. Kiehle married Alice Lilly, a fellow resident of the retirement center in Deland. Besides his wife of 10 years, Alice, he leaves his daughters, Dr. Janet Allen of Anchorage, Alaska, Marcia Cunningham of London, England, and Myrna (Lincoln) Janus of Evanston, Ill.; a son, James (Janis) Kiehle of Brattleboro, Vt.; 11
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service took place at the Florida Lutheran Retirement Center June 28. A committal service will take place graveside in Oak Lawn Cemetery, West Sparta, at 10 a.m. Aug. 18. Interment will be next to Gertrude following the service. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville.
