Plot: SampleNotes - William H. Sample, one of Sparta's most honorable men, died last Thursday night at his home at Reed's Corners, his age being 66 years and 6 months. He had been ill for some time with a complication of troubles, and has suffered to a great extent from heart difficulty which for a year prevented his lying down. Mr. Sample was a farmer and he was born in a log house on the farm where he died and which his father John Sample bought and cleared when he came into this town early in the last century. Mr. Sample was a man greatly esteemed by his neighbors. He was quiet, unobtrusive, a man of good judgement ad sterling integrity and one in whom his more intimate acquaintances placed the upmost confidence. He once held the office of assessor for three years, the only public office he ever held. For many years he was a member of the Evangelist church but six or seven years ago he and his wife united with the M.E. church. His wife, who was Miss Angeline Hartman, daughter of the late Henry Hartman of Sandy Hill, survives him together with an only daughter, Mrs. Norman Knights. He also leaves a brother, John Sample of Ossian, and two sisters, Mrs. J. T. Kuhn of Sparta and Mrs. M.V. Hotelling of Ossian. The funeral services were conducted on Monday from Reed's Corners church by Rev. C. E. Odell of Dansville, assisted by Rev. Rich of Scottsburg, and the remains were placed in the vault in Greenmount Cemetery to be interred later.
