Notes - Theodore E. Applin, 101, passed peacefully on Saturday (December 10, 2022) at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born in Dansville, N.Y., on August 25, 1921, the son of the late Clarence and Winifred Applin, and lived most of his adult life in Wayland, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Bolton Applin, to whom he was married for nearly 70 years. Ted was a World War II veteran of the US Army and served as an infantryman with General Patton's 3rd Army in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. The numerous medals he received for his service include the Bronze Star with Second Oak Leaf Cluster. A hard-working man, he once worked three jobs (milkman, school bus driver, and self-owned propane gas dealership) to support his family. He later worked for several years with Suburban Propane. He was an active member of the Wayland United Methodist Church for which he performed various administrative duties throughout the years. He was a steadfast participant of the church choir. When his boys were young, he was involved with scouting. e was a devoted family man who spent many years rallying his children and grandchildren on to camping trips to the Thousand Islands and the Adirondack Mountains where so many cherished memories were created. Gardening, feeding the birds, and watching football were among his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by two younger sisters, Muriel Mitchell of Walden, N.Y., and Carolyn (John) Congdon of Tucson, Ariz.; his children, Theodore Lee (Fran) Applin of Wayland, N.Y., Kenneth (Ethel) Applin of Sparta, N.Y., Chris (June/deceased) Applin of Wayland, N.Y., Jeanie (Rodger/deceased) Smith of Geneseo, N.Y., and Shelley (Dan) Pletcher of Romulus, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Terrie Conklin, Leanne Roadcap, Mandy Applin, and Brian Applin; and three great-grandchildren, Kirstyn, Katie, and Bryce Applin."
