- DANSVILLE - May Mitchell, 94, formerly of Swartz Road, Dansville, passed away Saturday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2004, at the Livingston County Skilled Nursing Facility in Mt. Morris where she had been a resident for several years.
Mary was born Jan. 4, 1910, in Hyde, England, the daughter of William and Mary Ann Schofield. She resided the first few years of her life in England before moving to Perry, N.Y., when she was 9 years-old. She then moved back to England for a couple of years prior to moving back to the Perry area when she was 16. From then on, May resided in the Wayland/Dansville area.
May and Jesse Mitchell entered into a loving marriage in the late 1940's. Together, they celebrated over 40 years together prior to his passing in 1990. During her life, May enjoyed teaching Sunday school and being an active member of the Assembly of God Church of Dansville for over 40 years.
Besides her husband Jesse, May was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Linda J. Mitchell and son William (Jeanne) Mitchell, both of Dansville; grandchildren Kristy (David) Moore of Conesus and Garrett, Benjamin and Ethan Mitchell of Dansville; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Boyd of Perry Center; and several nieces and nephews.
May's family and friends called 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St., Wayland. Her funeral service followed calling hours at 7 p.m., the Rev. Paul Metzger officiating.
