- Larry N. Smalt, 81, formerly of Seward Street in Dansville, passed away early Friday morning (Jan. 1, 2010) at the Livingston County CNFR in Mount Morris, where he had been a resident for the past several months..
He was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Wayland, a son of the late John and Beulah (Glover) Smalt. On July 31, 1948, in the Dansville United Methodist Church, he was married to Doris (Burger) Smalt who predeceased him Oct. 7, 2007.
Larry was employed for 32 years at Shay?s Service Inc., in Dansville, retiring in 1991, as the truck shop foreman. He was a former member of the Union Hose Fire Company of the Dansville Volunteer Fire Department and the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1130 of Dansville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of the Daniel Goho Post No. 87 of the American Legion. Larry enjoyed shooting skeet, fishing, hunting, clogging, and camping trips spent with Doris and all his family and friends.
He is survived by four daughters, Jean (Jim) Glover, Dianne (Mike) Daniel and Loraine (Dan) Wilson, all of Dansville, and Linda (Fred) Weiler of Standardsville, Va.; two sons, Jon Eric (Inez) Smalt, of Saginaw, Texas, and Dan (Emily) Smalt of Odenton, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister, Barbara Cooper of Wayland; a sister-in-law, Anita Burger of South Dansville; and a brother-in-law, H. Ross Glover of Dansville.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Ave., with the Rev. James W. Stevens officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be next to Doris in Rogersville Forest Lawn Cemetery, South Dansville.
