was freeman 14May1634. In 1646 was part of the Artillery Company,
later being Captain. In 1656 John was made Deacon of the Dorchester
Church. He was Representitve of Dorchester in 1671 and again from
1673 to 1678, he is credited for the man who, "wrote in the books more
than anyone by far." These would be the town records. He is buried
in the North Burying Ground, in Dorchester,MA. His stone reads, "Here
lyes Buried Ye Body of Capt John Capen. He was Deacon of ye Church of
Christ in Dorchester. He Died April ye 6th 1692 in ye 80th year of
age."
