- Helen Gibson, 91, a resident of the King's Daughters Home in Dansville for the past eight years, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997 after a brief illness. She was born in Ossian, Sept. 2, 1906, the daughter of the late Arthur and Maude Hamsher Gibson.
Miss Gibson obtained her master's degree in education from New York University. Prior to her retirement, she had taught at the Buffalo City School District for 44 yrs.
Helen was a life long staunch member of the Republican Party, the Eastern Star, the New Year State Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Opportunity Circle of the King's Daughters Home.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Esther Gibson of Dansville, nieces and nephews Louise (David) Evans of Conn., Margaret (William) Fay of Calif., Arthur (Nina) Crawford of Buffalo, Geri (Paul) Anderson of Mass., the late Alice (Nathan) Fenton of Dansville, May (Steven) Corey of Calif., Arthur (Joan) Gibson of S.C., Greta (Clarence) May of Avon, Norma Miner of Dansville, Harold (Norma) Gibson of Honeoye Falls, Howard (Robin) Gibson of Dansville and Lois (Richard) Pappa of Rochester. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, Betty Parks of Buffalo.
Friends called Thursday, Sept. 11, 2-4 and 7-9 at the Chamberlin Funeral Home, Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville, where a funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dayle Dickey officiating. Burial was in Canaseraga Cemetery.
