- DANSVILLE - Perry George Wambold, 82, passed away peacefully early Tuesday evening, Dec. 30, 2008, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Perry was born in Sparta May 9, 1926, a son of the late H. Jay and Mary Jane (Pifer) Wambold. On July 7,1950, he married Joyce Englert Wambold, who survives.
Perry was a graduate of the last graduating class of the Groveland High School. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, serving from 1944-1945. He was employed at the power plant at SUNY Geneseo for 25 years, retiring in 1984.
Perry was a member of Daniel Goho Post #87 of The American Legion, Frank Casbolt Post #6780 of the VFW, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1130, and the Dansville Fish & Game Club, all of Dansville. He was a life member of the New York State Hunting and Fishing Club, a member of the Scott-Grove Hunting Club, the NRA and CSEA. He was a past member of the Sparta Center Fire Department.
Perry loved to hunt, fish, yard sale shop and play cards, and he especially enjoyed sharing these pastimes with his family and friends.
Besides his parents, Perry was also predeceased by a grandson, Greg Nickerson, and siblings Amy Shepard, Grace Lown, Claire and Ellis Wambold. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce of Dansville; two daughters, Linda Schneider of Greece and Bonnie (Blake) Nickerson of Livonia; two sons, Tim (Laurie) Wambold of Reno, Nev., and Dana (Patti) Wambold of Wayland; a brother, Glenn (Millie) Wambold of Harrisburg, Pa.; eight grand-children: Tonia (John) Hatter of Hornell, Tammy (Andy) Anderson of Geneseo, Shawn (Wendy) Wambold of Livonia, Holly (Kevin) Rowe of Nunda, Shannon (Tim) Gantz of Canandaigua, Sara Zigenfus of Bath, Jeremy Wambold of Dansville and Amy (Ken Breemes) Wambold of Reno, Nev.; great-grandchildren Christopher (Tabitha), Taylor, Sean, Courtney, Michael, Justin, Alyssa, Dylan, Kaytlynn, Kirsten, Brittney, Ryan, Zachary, Devin, Ethan, Logan, Alexyn, Cody, Brandon, Savannah and Damien; and a great-great-granddaughter, Aubree.
Friends called Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment was in Union Cemetery, Scottsburg.
