  Notes	Dr. Reed Ellis Sanford, 74, passed away in Palm Springs, CA on April 9, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Reed was born May 23, 1934 in Princeton, MN to Ellis and Wilma (Petersen) Sanford. He graduated from PHS in 1952. He attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned his BS, Doctorate of Dental Surgery, and his Orthodontic Certification. He began his orthodontic practice in 1958 in Crookston, MN before moving to Fargo in 1960, where he practiced for 37 years, the last 20 with his partner Shelley Townsend, DDS. Reed was very active in several dental groups, including the ND Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the ND Society of Orthodontists, the Midwest Society of Orthodontists, the American Society of Orthodontists, and the International College of Dentists. He was also a founding member of the ND Dental Foundation. Reed enjoyed many activities, most notably fishing, hunting, skiing, tennis, golf, and cribbage. His favorite times were spent with family and friends at his lake cabin in Minnesota and his winter home in Palm Desert, CA. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, step-father, grandfather, and friend. Reed is survived by his loving wife Perrie (Patterson) Sanford of Palm Desert, CA; three children from his marriage to Glenda (Carlson) Sanford: Kenneth (Darla) Sanford and Paul Sanford of Fargo, Sheryl (Mike) Van Scoy of Duluth, MN; step-children Bryce Patterson of Anza, CA and Channing Patterson of Costa Mesa, CA; grandchildren Rob, Sean, and Stephen Sanford, Hugh, Elise and William Van Scoy; and his brother Dr. David Sanford of Minneapolis. A celebration of Reed's life will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 4-7 PM at the Fargo Country Club, 509 26th Ave S, Fargo, ND. Interment: Oak Knoll Cemetery, Princeton, MN. Memorials may be sent to the North Dakota Dental Foundation, c/o Joe Cichy, PO Box 1332, Bismarck, ND 58502-1332.
