- DANSVILLE - James A. Young, 73, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Noyes Memorial Hospital, Dansville.
Jim was born July 27, 1935, in Rushford, N.Y., a son of Adren and Adeline (Babcock) Young. He was the husband of Grace (Shafer) Young, who survives. He was employed at McNair Nursery in Dansville.
Jim was a member of Revival Tabernacle Church in Dansville; he was an musician, leading a local country and western band.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, Leroy Young; two sisters, Florence Shute and Inez Alvord; and his stepmother, Genevieve Stauffer, who raised him as her own.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Grace; his children Lucinda (W. Earl) Winspear of Spruce Pine, N.C., Victoria Young and Stephen Young of Dansville, Esther (Stephen) Halbert of Wayland, Timothy (Lydia) Young of Batavia, James E. (Katherine) Young of Trout Run, Pa., Andrew (Cammy) Young of Bergen, and Theresa (Thomas) Rex and Caitlyn Young of Dansville; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, David Young; a sister, Gloria Brown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends called 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Dansville Revival Tabernacle Church, with the Rev. Ken Ferguson officiating. Burial was in South Church Cemetery, Sparta.
