- Dansville - Ernest E. Neu, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at his home with his loving wife June by his side.
Ernest was born July 8, 1925, in Cohocton, a son of Amoki and Bertha (Mehlenbacher) Neu. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II, from 1944 to 1946. He married June Burger on Nov. 1, 1947; she survives.
Ernie started his career as a dairy farmer in South Dansville and then worked a short time at Foster Wheeler Corp. in Dansville before going to the Gunlocke Chair Factory in Wayland, where he worked for 32 years and retired as a foreman in the Chair Plant.
He was a former member of the Wayland American Legion and the Wayland Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed tending his crop garden and watching basketball, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, June; his children, Wayne (Pat) Neu of Texas, Carl (Margaret) Neu of Iona, Linda (Rick) Holt of Florida, Donna Brooks (Dave Hynes) of Wayland, Wanda (Joe) Hamsher of Wayland, Sandra (Carl) Hoppough of North Carolina, Theresa (Gordon) Schwalbe of Florida, Dana (Linda) Neu of Wayland; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no prior calling. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville.
