CASEY WILLIAMS DIES FROM THE RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT
His Horse Ran Away, Overturning a Load of Hay and Burying Him Beneath It - His Death Came Suddenly This Mourning, Being Caused by Internal Injuries.
LE ROY, June 2.—Casey Williams, a prosperous farmer and a veteran of the Civil War, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning at his home two miles southeast of this village from the effects of internal Injuries received in a runaway accident yesterday afternoon. Mr. Williams drove to the farm of Thomas Jerry, east of the village, to purchase a load of hay. After securing his purchase he took a seat on top of the load and started for home. Near the Jerry farm he had to descend a steep bill and while going down it his horses became frightened and broke into a run. He vainly endeavored to get them under control. At the foot of the hill the horses left the road and the wagon was completely overturned, Mr. Williams being burled beneath the load. Mr. Jerry and his brother, who had witnessed the accident from a distance, hurried to the scene and extracted Mr. Williams, who was unconscious, and carried him to the home of Mr. Thomas near by. Dr. Stone was hastily summoned. By the time he arrived Mr. Williams had regained consciousness and insisted that he was terribly injured internally. The doctor made an examined and found that the man's collar bone was broken. Later Mr. Williams's condition seemed much improved and he was taken to his home. He was comfortable during the night and walked about the house this morning. Suddenly, about 8:30 o'clock, he complained of feeling worse and sat down. In less than two minutes he was dead. Mr. Williams was born in Allegany county in 1838 and when quite young came to this town. In 1870 he bought the farm where he died. He leaves a widow and two adopted sons, Frank of Allegany county and Fay of Le Roy. The time of the funeral has not yet been fixed, but it will be under the auspices of Staunton Post, G.A.R., of which be was a member.
