  Notes	A shocking accident occurred on the farm of Theodore Gray on the Reservation, Monday, in which Mr. Gray lost his life. Mr. Gray went to the farm Monday with a span of colts after a load of hay, and in coming from the barn to the house, which is considerably down hill, the colts became unmanageable and ran away, running into a large evergreen tree, the sudden stop of which threw Mr. Gray from the load, rendering him insensible, in which condition he remained until he died the following morning, age 68 years. Mr. Gray was born in Springwater, Livingston Co., and came to the farm where he died, when seven years of age, where he had lived for fifty years. He was also a resident of the town of Portage for twelve years. He had been married forty seven years, his wife's maiden name being Miss Mary Rood, who with two sons, Frank and Fred, survive him, the former a resident of this village and the latter occupying the farm. He also has two sisters living in this village, Mrs. Samuel Cole (Margaret Ann) and Mrs. H. M. Benedict (Josephine). Mr. Gray came to this village about a year ago and built two handsome houses on Watrous street, one of which was occupied by himself and the other by his son Frank. He was a good citizen and the community were greatly shocked to learn of his death. (Perry Herald & News, Thursday 16 May 1895)
