- Alfred Dean Stewart Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died August 17, 2014. Fred was born on 21 November, 1934, in Rochester, New York, to Phyllis MacArthur and Alfred Dean Stewart. He graduated from Cascia Hall in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma, as well as a second masters in English. He served two years in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. He received his Doctorate in English from the University of North Carolina. On October 29, 1966, he married Margaret Harris at the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Fred taught English at Loyola University in Chicago for four years and continued his study of Philosophy at Northwestern University. In 1973 he joined the faculty of Midwestern University to teach both English and Philosophy. For 35 years he greatly enjoyed the privilege of sharing his love of literature, critical thinking, and philosophy with students and colleagues at Midwestern State University, where he was known for his wit, humor, and generous nature. He is survived by his wife Margaret, their three sons, David, Peter, and John and his wife Elizabeth, and his grandchildren Mary Katherine, Macaela, and Myles. Funeral services were held August 20, 2014, at St. Stephan's Episcopal Church with The Very Rev. John D. Payne officiating.
