- Dropout charged in slaying
BATAVIA (AP) — An unemployed high school dropout is due
back in Batavia City Court today after being charged in connection with the stabbing death of his friend on Christmas Eve. Batavia Police Investigator Darryl Sehm said Thomas Russell, 18, of Batavia, was charged with first-degree manslaughter in die death of Theodore Castronova, 19, also of Batavia. According to Sehm, the two men and a third friend had been out "cruising" and drinking beer when Castronova's car ran out of gas early Christmas Eve morning. After arguing inside the car, Russell and Castronova stepped outside onto the street, where they began punching each other. Sehm said Castronova wanted the other two to push the car while he
steered. "At some point, the knife came out, hit Castronova in the chest and it turned out to be fatal," Sehm said.
